Assassin’s Creed 3 will be the finale to feature Desmond Miles the new age assassin from all the previous entries, Ubisoft has confirmed. Ubisoft wanted to get on with the story so people can get all the answers.

Speaking with OXM, Assassin’s Creed 3 lead designer Steve Masters said,

“What we’re trying to do is bring some finality to Desmond’s story. To actually wrap up what you’ve opened and experienced with him.”

“So we’re trying to make it a little bit more direct with the storyline,” he continued, “but at the same time there are still going to be plenty of little mysterious bits for you to dig into, especially in the side stuff.”

Masters knows fans are frustrated by the plot stalling that struck Ezio’s trilogy, Masters also said

“We wanted there to be a big leap forward in the story, and we wanted you to feel a good sense of progress in what’s going on in the story”

He concluded, “A lot of the misdirection and the way we’ve been meandering a little bit has been kind of frustrating as a player and for the audience, so we wanted to make sure there was going to be more substance to get your teeth into to.

– Its about time Ubisoft moves on with the Assassin’s Creed story. Desmond has been featured in 5 games including Assassin’s Creed 3 so its time for a new hero.

Assassin’s Creed 3 launches worldwide on PC, PS3, and 360 on October 30th with a Wii U version planned for launch day.

Getting rid of Desmond is a bad idea, actually. It might be acceptable if ACIII hadn't been such a terrible mass of (once again) broken promises, but still.

I'm still stuck on how anyone at Ubisoft deluded themselves into believing that what they did in ACIII at all provided any resolution, peace, or finality. And there was a LOT less substance. It was worse than Mass Effect 3. At least, in ME3, you can choose from of four questionable endings, and there's even an option to accomplish the goal of defeating the Reapers. ACIII just created a cheap plot device as an obvious method of milking more money out of the series. Simultaneously, they also rendered the entire quest up to this point in total vain.

    ACIV better be DAMN good.

This series is milked to death. It needs to take a year off, and get a new engine. ACIV will be ok, but it will still feel like all the other games.
