BioShock Infinite Multiplayer cut due to Limited time and Resources, says Levine

BioShock Infinite was going to have multiplayer at one point but was ultimatiley dropped. Irrationals’ Ken Levine referred to it has one of his “experiments” but never came to more than that.

In an interview with ShackNews, Levine was clear why multiplayer was cut from BioShock Infinite.

“So, like everything, you try certain things, and [with] the multiplayer, we got to a point where we said: ‘okay, this is the you-know-what or get off the pot moment’,” he said. “We decided to get off the pot because it wasn’t there yet.

“That makes it sound like I’m dissing on what the guys did. No. Actually, I think they did some really extraordinary stuff, but we felt we didn’t have the resources and time to finish the experiment to the level we wanted to. And we weren’t going to ship something that was not consistent with the overall package.”

Levine would not discuss what type of multiplayer was dropped but he did say

“you never know when we’ll go back and revisit something,” leading one to believe it’s not completely off the table for post release content. You never know, though, ideas created for it may be incorporated in another capacity instead.

“There was some really cool stuff there, but it just wasn’t ready for what we were doing,”

BioShock Infinite is releasing on March 26th for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Ever game does’t need multiplayer. BioShock 2 had it just a couple years ago and nobody played it……. and it was crap. Mass Effect 3 had multiplayer and the single player suffered. I’m happy its a single player game. Don’t force mutliplayer down the consumers throats.
