Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Passes $1 Billion sale in 15 days Worldwide

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 is a money making monster. The game just released about two weeks ago has crossed the $1 billion mark for sales in a mere 15 days. Hit the link for details and reactions from Activision brass.

Modern Warfare 3 reached this mark in 16 day, so Call of Duty Black Ops 2 is off to a little better start.

The release of Call of Duty has been one of the most significant entertainment events of each of the last six years,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “Since Call of Duty was launched, cumulative franchise revenues from players around the world are greater than current worldwide box office receipts to date for the top-10 grossing films of 2012 combined.

“Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for Harry Potter and Star Wars, the two most successful movie franchises of all time.”

Compared to films, the box office record set for feature films was in 2009 by “Avatar” which hit $1 billion in 17 days.

Over 150 million hours have been logged online through PSN and Xbox Live playing Call of Duty Black Ops 2. The number will only rise more as the Wii U numbers are factored in.

Cal of Duty Black Ops 2 hit the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 November 13 with a Wii U release date of November 18th.
