PE freelance writer Diego Arias has penned an interesting article discussing Nintendo and third-party support. See the full article below.
One of the big issues that has been debated on a multitude of times with the Wii U, is Nintendo excluding online play. While there have been other issues such as the lack of online features, the biggest problem was Nintendo’s games outright lacking online multiplayer (remember the Super Mario 3D World fiasco). However, with the release of Mario Kart 8, and today’s confirmation of Hyrule Warriors having online play, four of Nintendo’s big first party titles in 2014 have online play, FREE of charge for Wii U owners.
I downloaded the Destiny Beta yesterday and played through a couple of hours of the campaign. I also started up Mario & Luigi Dream Team on the Nintendo 3DS. And while the Destiny beta is great for what its worth…..I found Mario & Luigi’s Dream Team far more addicting, despite having inferior graphics, gameplay modes, and features.
Bandai Namco…..Bamco….Bammi, we need to talk. If you haven’t heard the news, Project Cars on Wii U is delayed. This is despite the massive hype surrounding the Wii U version, and no competition from games in the same genre. Meanwhile the Xbox One, PC, and PS4 versions will be released this November against: The Crew, Forza Horizon 2, and DriveClub. It’s pretty obviously the Wii U version of the game will suffer bad sales now and why is Bamco so excited the Wii U version is delayed?
Thumbsticks has penned and interesting opinion article on Nintendo’s online ventures through the years. Read the article here, then come back to PE to discuss.
I remember when Bayonetta 2 was first shown off at E3 2013. Many users were saying the game barely looks better than the PS3 and Xbox 360 Bayonetta, and how the Wii U version’s graphics were not impressive. But now that Bayonetta 2 is nearing completion and screenshots have emerged showing off Bayonetta 1 and 2 side by side. It’s clear that Nintendo’s machine packs plenty of power to deliver visuals that surpass last generation by a good amount.
I got a chance to go hands on with LittleBigPlanet 3 at E3 2014 this week. And while it’s not a bad game by any means, it felt a little uninspired, and the graphics were a bit lackluster from what we’ve seen Sony do on the PS4 up till this point. When I asked the Sony reps about the PS3 version of LBP 3, he paused, then said ‘we’re not talking about that version, we’re really just focusing on the PS4.’ With some of the game delays, Sony’s reluctance to talk about the PS3 version of LBP 3, and the overall lacking graphics, something tells me LittleBigPlanet 3 on PS4 is a port of the PS3 version. But the game is not finished, and I don’t know that for sure. It could turn up looking a lot better in the final version. And please don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on LBP 3. I think it will be fun for those who like the previous games, but I just feel the game is hiding something. I’ll have my full preview with footage up on LittleBigPlanet 3 in the coming weeks.
I don’t know about you guys, but I find it really strange that websites that usually report the Media Create sales charts…….mysteriously skipped this week for some reason. I understand it’s just Video Games, but I’m Shocked that sites that have plenty to say on the Media Create on some weeks, decided to take this week off…… I wonder why?
Jamie Butterworth goes over his Super Smash Bros for Wii U & 3DS Direct impressions. Check it out below.

My last video caused quite the buzz on Kingdom Hearts III potentially coming to Wii U. I wanted to explain myself further why I feel Kingdom Hearts III is a good fit for Wii U, and why Nintendo fans have proven they deserve the opportunity to play KH3 on the system of their preference. DePapier from the Playeressence community has written another article discussing Nintendo’s possible discount and dedicated user program Iwata mentioned during the investor meeting in January.
Francis briefly discusses Watch Dogs on Wii U being delayed. Subscribe to my PE Reviews channel for more news updates, reviews, gameplay, and more.
After the whole Watch Dogs debacle from Kotaku. Stephen Totilo, editor in chief of Kotaku said “Anonymous sources are, I believe, an essential part of reporting.” As an editor myself, I feel this is completely BS, as what Mr. Totilo forgot to mention to his loyal readers is ‘anonymous sources’ are a way for Kotaku to gain more revenue by beating other news outlets to the punch. Fate of the game has written a nice article discussing the practice of journalism, and how Kotaku is breaking many rules for their own selfish gain. There is so much technical jargon in this post it made my head spin. But there is a guy who actually thinks the Wii U is stronger than the PS4 and Xbox One, and he ‘appears’ to be doing a good job of explaining why. Read the full post here. Or you can get the cliff notes version below.
Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata, has admitted he misread the market. He also said that he needs to a better job of tracking Western trends. Change is coming to Nintendo, Iwata said it himself. But what change is coming? Here are my ideas of what I think, Nintendo will do to remedy Wii U and 3DS sales.
Playeressence user Gryphonofmight, has listed his top ten most anticipated games of 2014. See which games made the top ten below.
We have a brand new writer for Playeressence! His name is Diego Arias, and he feels that the 8th generation of systems, will have more issues and problems than the 7th generation.
GenGAME has penned a fantastic article discussing why profitability matters more than sheer units sold. Get a snippet of the article here.
Super Mario 3D World’s opening week sales were absolutely destroyed by the media. Unfair comparisons, proclamations of being outsold with missing information, and just flat-out sensational titled articles, infested the internet for weeks regarding Super Mario 3D World’s sales. But as the dust settled, and the Wii U sold more units, Super Mario 3D World is proving to be an “evergreen” title. While Lighting Returns and Knack sales have fallen off a cliff.
Microsoft has announced that they are “committed” to releasing the Xbox One in Japan, in 2014. While Microsoft might be committed to doing this, the Japanese consumers are not committed to buying Microsoft’s consoles.
It’s pretty clear at this point that a lot of Microsoft and Sony fans want Nintendo to go third-party. Even Jason Rubin, the former CEO of THQ said he wants Nintendo to go software only. I was going to write article why Nintendo won’t go third-party anytime soon, but that type of article has been beaten to death. So I figured I can write an article on the games that drive Microsoft and Sony fans to say Nintendo should go third-party. Here are the top five upcoming games I could think of.
Just in case you missed the Media Create Charts this morning, Nintendo sold more than 200,000 units of hardware this past week. The 3DS sold over 181,556 units. The Wii U picked up 74,903 units, while 14 Nintendo titles charted in the top 20. Super Mario 3D World pushed another 57,862 units. Showing that Mario games always sell for long periods of time. While GungHo’s Puzzle and Dragons Z moved 543,630 units. More details below.
Gaming site Pietriots, has listed four depressing realities surrounding “next-gen gaming.” From Platinum Games to DRM, this article covers a wide rage of “depressing realities” in the gaming industry right now. Read the article here. Thanks Normal Gamer for the tip!
As you guys know, I’m a huge Nintendo fan. But at the same time, I feel Nintendo is being quite dicey with their YouTube Copyright policies.
You guys know how I do it at Playeressence, I try to be balanced. I just posted a video with Rich from ReviewTech blasting Nintendo and agreeing with Jason Rubin. Now I’ll post an article discussing some good news on Wii U. Check it out here. Thanks Ricard for the tip! Btw Ricard published a new article yesterday.
You guys asked for him, and he has responded. Ricard Julianti is finally back with another interesting, amazing, and thoughtful opinion article. If you only have time to do one thing today, make sure it’s to read this article.
Brayden Cole from ACHP discusses Jason Rubin’s controversial comments on Nintendo.
Gimme Gimme Games site owner Kevin Femmel, has discussed Jason Rubin’s thoughts on Nintendo’s hardware being “irrelevant”. Get a snippet of the interview below.
Nintendo Enthusiast’s Shawn Long has published an interesting discussing why negative Nintendo news is so popular. Get a snippet of the article below.
Playeressence user and major news contributor Anti, has brought to light an interesting comparison of Deus Ex Human Revolution Director’s Cut UK sales. It seems like the Wii U version did ok, but the PS3 and Xbox 360 completely flopped. See all the comparisons with links and numbers below.
Ok, so I got Sonic Lost World at midnight and got to play through the first couple levels. And my knee jerk reaction to the game is that its pretty good. I’m going to be reviewing the game on my PE Reviews channel, so stay tuned for that on Sunday or Monday. Nintendo has uploaded the Sonic Lost World launch trailer as well, check it out below.
Gaming Blend is really trying to start something here. In an article by William Usher, he claims that the Wii U has more “next-gen” games, that run in 1080p 60fps, over the PS4 and Xbox One . I’m not going to agree or disagree, I’ll just post some of the stuff he said, then link the whole article.
We all know Nintendo just delayed Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze on Wii U. However, this brings up a great opportunity to purchase a quality third-party game in its wake.
One of our users Eyeofcore, has a amazing breakdown of the Wii U’s specs in response to a thread asking if the Wii U is powerful enough to handle GTA 5. Get the full breakdown below.
Ok, so next Sunday the Deluxe Wii U Set drops in price by $50 and retailers start to phase out the Basic 8GB Wii U set. When Nintendo announced the price cut and the 2DS, it was via press release and YouTube videos, not Nintendo Direct. I have a feeling Nintendo is going to have a small Nintendo Direct next week to hype up the Wind Waker HD Bundle.
Although Reggie Fils-Aime thought the PS4 and Xbox One’s launch line-ups are “meh”, that doesn’t mean there are not some good games for each system at launch. Get the full breakdown of the PS4 and Xbox One’s launch line-ups below.
Here we go again, Nintendo doomed, and not because of Sony or Microsoft, but Apple and their new iOS gaming service that’s coming. I said I wouldn’t link this article but after reading it, I couldn’t help but laugh at its stupidity. There are more holes in it than swiss cheese.
In the four weeks Pikmin 3 has been out in Japan, Wii U sales have risen 117% from the previous four weeks. Get the full statistical break-down below.
