Retro Gaming – Sega Saturn ‘X-men vs Street Fighter’ & ‘NiGHTS’

Although the Sega Saturn didn’t enjoy a long life, it did have some amazing games on it. I was over at a buddies house today. And we fired up some classic Sega Saturn games. Needless to say, I had more fun in that hour and half than I’ve had with the PS3 and Xbox 360 in years.

EA’s “Unprecedented Partnership” with Nintendo and Other Fairy Tales

Ricard Julianti’s third opinion piece looks at the fable that is EA, and how the company is full of lies, deceit, and BS.

EA is a Complete joke of a Company

As most of you guys might have heard by now, EA has stated Madden 25 will not be hitting the Wii U this year. Which, I have no problem with. EA and Nintendo have a strained business relationship over the whole Origin on Wii U thing. But it’s what they said next that pissed me off.

Would Another Industry Crash be Such a Bad Thing?

Playeressence’s second community opinion piece is here. Ricard Julianti is back to bring another well written, formulated opinion on the gaming industry. Check it out past the link. It’s a must read.

Xenoblade 2 will be the Wii U’s Final Fantasy VII

Xenoblade 2 is on track to be one of the greatest RPG’s every created, and it could end up being the Wii U’s Final Fantasy VII.

Is Online Multiplayer Ruining the Single-Player Portion of Games?

By Furious Francis

Action-adventure games have always had a special place in my heart. Before I knew Super Mario Bros 3 was a platformer, I considered it an action-adventure game. You were jumping on enemies heads, traveling to distant lands, and wearing different suits to unleash new powers. It had all the make up of a current action game. My brother and I would take turns playing as Mario and Luigi in the game’s “sudo” co-op mode. Playing Mario Bros 3 on my NES, was a fun event in our household. The interactions between my  brother and I, in person,  were enough for us back then. So what has changed so much from early 90′s? Why are classic single-player franchise’s getting force-fed online multiplayer?

Pachter has lost his mind: RAM Equals Innovation, Xbox 720 wins Because of Skype & TV

By Furious Francis

The world’s greatest gaming analyst, Michael Patcher, conducted a presentation at the SXSW Interactive 2013. In his Powerpoint presentation, he had a lot of interesting things to say about the PS4, Wii U, and Xbox 720. The highlight being that the PS4′s huge RAM will likely lead to innovation. And, the Xbox 720 will be the next generation console victor.

Crysis 3 is a Classic Example of Graphics over Gameplay

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli, has claimed that Crysis 3 is a “masterpiece“ and the reason it’s not doing that well at retail or critically, is because of gamer fatigue of the current generation consoles. While the PS3 and Xbox 360 have been out for a long time, that is no excuse for Crysis 3 to be a generic power-suit shooter, that does little, if any, to push the first person shooter genre forward. This game is the epitome of graphics over gameplay.

The Wii U will miss out on the Witcher 3, But Nintendo fans can look Forward to These RPGs Instead

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was recently announced for the PS4 and “other high-end consoles”, and it looks fantastic. The term “other high-end consoles” probably doesn’t consist of the Wii U, unfortunately. While this might seem like a downer for many Wii U owners, the system actually has a nice pipeline of RPGs coming out for it in the next year or two. Check out my Top five upcoming Wii U RPGs.

Microsoft and Sony are Closer to Going Third-Party than Nintendo – Lets get the Facts Straight

By Furious Francis

A lot of my fellow journalists, gamers, and industry insiders like Cliff Bleszinski and Michael Pachter, have claimed that Nintendo could go software only next generation, due to how the Wii U is performing. However, this is practically impossible, on account of how much capital Nintendo has in their bank account. Many people forget how successful Nintendo’s portable business is in Japan as well. Yeah, I’m talking to you Pachter.

Can Watch Dogs sell as much as GTA V?

By Furious Francis

Watch Dogs had a spectacular demo at the Destination PlayStation event last week, and the game will be released on six platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, PC, PS4, Xbox 720. Meanwhile, GTA V has only been confirmed for the PS3 and Xbox 360. GTA V could come to other platforms, but as of now, it’s only been confirmed for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Since Watch Dogs will be released on six platforms, is there any possible way the game could sell as much or more than GTA V?

After Watching the PS4 Event, I’m Disappointed with Nintendo

By Furious Francis, the true Jounin

I’ll start off by saying I’m a Nintendo fan, I like jumping on goomba’s heads, fighting huge monsters, and catching them all. I’m not huge on shooters to be honest. Sony showing off the insane graphics of Killzone wasn’t the reason why I’m disappointed with Nintendo. Even the Infamous reveal didn’t make me mad at Nintendo. What made me disappointed with Nintendo, is the lack of foresight in the next generation race. Sony is packing a lot of graphical heat, that’s for sure. But there also innovating with the functionality of the PS4. Being able to watch other players games in spectator mode while having voice chat is freaking awesome! Meanwhile, Nintendo can’t even let me play Nintendo Land online. Below I will address why Sony knocked it out of the park, the Wii U’s future, and how Nintendo can learn a thing or two from Sony.

Sony is all in with the PS4

The PS4 will be getting it’s big reveal on Wednesday this week and Sony is banking that the PS4 will help turn around a games division that’s been outsold in the US by Microsoft for the last 24 months. Sony understands the PS4 has to be a major success. They understand whats at stake. Sony has made a number of precautions to ensure they do have success. There are some things I’m still concerned about, but hopefully those issues get ironed out. Below, I will detail What Sony has done to ensure the PS4 will hit the ground running.

Nintendo Doomed? Hardly, Addressing the Wii U’s Sales, Problems, and Future

By: Furious Francis

The Wii U has had a rocky start to say the least. The latest NPD numbers were released and the Wii U is not selling well. The Wii U only managed to sell 57K in the month of January. I actually see this as a positive,Nintendo didn’t have any notable software in January and 57,000 people decided to get one for $300 and up. Nintendo has their work cut out for them, but by no means is Nintendo doomed. I will address the Wii U’s issues entirely in the article below.

Nintendo Needs to Announce a Wii U Achievement System Integrated with MiiVerse ASAP

The Wii U is an amazing system. I have had a blast cutting through Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor’s Edge, collecting Star Coins in New Super Mario Bros U, and experiencing survival horror at its roots in ZombiU. However, there is one thing missing that I really want to see on Wii U. A unified achievement system that integrates MiiVerse would really spark my interest to collect and explore the games I play more. Here are a few reasons why Nintendo should integrate achievements in the Wii U OS.

Sony is Gift-Wrapping Japan to Nintendo

The 3DS recently passed the PS3′s Lifetime-date-sales in Japan. Games like Animal Crossing New Leaf, Fantasy Life, New Super Mario Bros 2, Monster Hunter, and Paper Mario dominate the Japanese game charts with little to no resistance from Sony. Why isn’t Sony doing something about the situation in Japan?

Will Next-Gen Games look much Better than Current Generation Games?

Playeressence’s Furious Francis discusses his general confusion of next generation graphics and his reasons for being so.

Ubisoft has sent Rayman Legends to die

Ubisoft has delayed Rayman Legends on the Wii U to September, in order to have a simultaneous release on the Xbox 360 and PS3. This is a horrible business decision that will cost Ubisoft in the long run.

The Xbox 720 & PS4 need Powerful Hardware, the Wii U does not

The Wii U’s graphical capabilities have been partially revealed online, and while it’s an upgrade from the current generation of graphics, the PS4 and Xbox 720 will be capable of much more graphically. This is something that has been known for a while now, just not proven. I didn’t expect Nintendo to come out with an ultra powerful or expensive machine. It’s around the same cost of a PS Vita with a Memory Card.

A large majority of Nintendo fans just wanted better online, HD graphics, and great games. Which Nintendo is already delivering on. Some skeptics have written off the Wii U and said it won’t have the power to compete with the Xbox 720 and PS4. What gamers need to understand is the Xbox 720 and PS4 need the extra power for the type of games their audiences play. The Wii U does not need to be super powerful system for the type of games it will be hosting.

PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale Should have been a Shameless Smash Bros Clone

PlayStation All Stars Battle Royal developer Superbot Entertainment is going through a bit of a rough patch. They were hit with some serious layoffs last week, plus Sony has cut ties with the company for sure. I hate it when people lose their jobs but Sony has some of the most dedicated and loyal fans out there. Why did this game under perform? There are many theories I have to why PlayStation All Stars didn’t do well. I managed to narrow it down to three reasons for the sake of keeping this article short and sweet.
