December NPD: Wii U sells 460K Units, 3DS sells 1.25 Million

The Wii U is off to a strong start selling 460,000 units in the US for the month of December 2012. So far the system has sold a total of 890,000 LTD in the US. More NPD numbers below.
In just 41 days on the market, the Wii U has generated a staggering $300 million in hardware sales in the US alone. In comparison, the Wii had sales of $270 million within the same time period.
“The demand for the Deluxe SKU, which was essentially sold out at retail this holiday, and the strong attach rate of New Super Mario Bros. U, shows that we have the value and the games to drive momentum in 2013. We look forward to offering great new experiences and bringing smiles to millions of new faces throughout the year,” Nintendo of American executive Scott Moffitt said.
New Super Mario Bros U had an amazing attach rate near 65% with 580,000 units sold.
Nintendo sold over 2.65 million units in hardware sales for December 2012. The DS, 3DS, and Wii sold a combined 2.2 million units.
3DS dominated the handheld market with over 1.25 million units sold in December bringing the lifetime sales of the system to 7.7 million. New Super Mario Bros 2 was the big seller for the 3DS moving 1.45 million units.
The Wii has sold over 40 million units in the US, selling 475,000 units in December. These numbers surpass the total LTD sales of the Super Nintendo worldwide.
Just Dance 3 has sold over 5 million units lifetime to date worldwide. The DS also had a strong showing selling 470,000 units with a total of 53 million units sold lifetime to date in the US.
