Deep Down – Yoshinori Ono Explains why Capcom is Making the new IP for PS4
Yoshinori Ono took the stage during the PS4 event last week and showed off a trailer for the upcoming action game Deep Down. Ono has now explained why Capcom is focusing on the PS4 for this new IP, rather than making a sequel to Dragon’s Dogma.
In an interview with MCV, Ono discussed that Capcom decided on a new IP because it didn’t want to be bogged down or restricted with lofty expectations from an established IP like Street Fighter or Resident Evil.
We wanted to be free to utilise the PS4′s hardware capabilities and unique services without the constraints of working within an existing IP. Of course, the development experience we gain will put us in an even better position to bring our existing series to the console in a way that takes full advantage of its hardware and services.”
Ono also said the PS4 is very developer friendly, which enables Capcom to create the Deep Down trailer in a short amount of time.
