Horizon Zero Dawn will run at 1080p/30fps, Uses Modified Killzone Shadow Fall Engine

Horizon Zero Dawn

The impressive looking new IP Horizon: Zero Dawn will run on a modified Killzone engine, in addition to running at 1080p 30fps on PS4. Guerrilla Games’ art director, Jan-Bart van Beek discussed the matter with VideoGamer.

“It is actually still the same engine but then [there is] an enormous leap from Shadow Fall to this. The Shadow Fall engine isn’t an open-world streaming world engine so for the last two years a lot of technological effort has gone into actually being able to make it work like this.”

I still don’t get this game or any other of these AAA games for that matter. It’s considered a new IP, but all I see is “open-world” and “shooter”, which has been in so many games before it.

Every genre’s had 1000 games before though. I never get sick of platformers no matter how many times I play them, I never get sick of RPG’s, I never get sick of open world games… In the end it just comes down to whether or not the game is fun not what kind of game it is or how many times it’s been done before. It’s not always so much about reinventing the wheel as it is making sure it turns smoothly.

I have a feeling this game is going to be hit by the Watch_Dogs curse. HARD.

Maybe. But Watch_Dogs was just a mediocre game in general. This looks pretty promising to me.

Watch_Dogs looked pretty promising when it was first announced as well, that’s the point I’m getting at. We haven’t truly seen this game in motion yet, which is very dubious for game that has supposedly had 4.5 years in dev time at this point.

I watched a very lengthy gameplay clip actually, and it looks absolutely fantastic.

This game stole the show for me personally. Best new announcement at E3- bar none. Although ReCore definitely caught my interest, Rare Replay (but that doesn’t really count), Zelda Triforce Heroes, Final Fantasy 7 is a definite win, The Last Guardian (finally), Star Fox Zero (though we did technically know about it before hand), Dishonored 2 (the first was excellent) and Nier 2.

And there was a crap load of game shown that we already knew was coming, too many to list really. All in all this was a fantastic E3

  • Mega Prime

This game looks and runs great. Perhaps it’s not the fps that matter, but the caliber of the game.
