The only games that are not made for Nintendo's systems that are in that week's top 20 are ALL NEW GAMES. That week was a week of scant game releases in Japan (it helped in making that article's title sense), and again sales of all available systems (except the Wii) increased.

    • @BFbg: you are reading it wrong because sales for the original Wii has risen too

  • Nintendo is doing absolutely wonderful this holiday season. With the right strategy in place Nintendo can most definitely bounce back in the year 2014. I’m hoping that they can keep this momentum going into the new year. I have faith in their current leadership and I think that they will do much better next year than they have done this year.

Nintendo has the right software to push units in Japan. They will continue to do well over there with their 2014 line up. Sony needs some killer apps. Persona, Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy to push sales for the PS4 when it's released in February. Other wise the Japanese will ignore it and only the real Sony Die-hards will buy it.

    • alex9234

My thoughts exactly. I'm not sure if the PS4 will do very well in Japan, after what Sony pulled with the launch, by putting it in February instead of November. Also the PS3 wasn't all that popular in Japan either, as it sold just 10 million units in Japan, in 7 years that it has been on the market, and the 3DS just surpassed the PS3's lifetime sales in Japan and the 3DS is on track to becoming the best selling game system of all time. IMO, Only die-hard Gran Turismo and Square Enix fans will buy the PS4 in Japan if Sony decides to keep it's focus on the west instead.

    Nintendomination, just complete Nintendomination

No surprise that the Wii U has yet another bump for the holidays; same for 3DS with even godly sales.

Puzzle & Dragons Z and Dark Moon are almost reaching million seller status.

Nintendo is once again having a very Merry Christmas raking in the dough with their 3DS, 3DS/Wii U software sales and eShop sales. ^_^

    • alex9234

Well, Mario Kart Wii sold over 32 million copies on the Wii, I hope MK8 can put up similar results or something great, I expect it to be a big seller.

    Famitsu shows 119K Wii U's :O

    likely due to bundles

  • Twinkie5000

Looks like Nintendo survived being doomed… again.

    • Mythosa

In all legitimacy, it’s still too early to say such things, however they are on a great run in Japan with both their systems.

      • onlyUnextgen

        okaaayyyyyyy lol

donky kong wiiu next month and kart 8 early summer then smash

smash and kart sold insane nubers on wii and 3d world will keep ticking over all year

this is the very start nintendo intended DISRUPT THE PS4

      • DePapier

Honestly, for a one-year-old console that used to sell below 10K for months and that now bolster a real library of exclusives, launching into a year of other blockbuster exclusives…

It’s over: the Wii U is out of doom in Japan. It remains to be confirmed, but definitely can be declared just like the opposite has been for… years actually.

      • RicardJulianti

When they could take losses as big as they did in FY2011…..every year….and be around for 30+ years before needing to sell assets…it's not too early to say things like that.

It would take several colossal failures and a lot of managements screw ups to sink Nintendo. They aren't going anywhere any time soon.

        • alex9234

Anyone who claims that Nintendo will go the way of Sega clearly has a limited understanding of how business works. Sega didn't go under because the Dreamcast didn't sell, they went under due to poor business choices and management (too bad gamers are afraid to admit that). Nintendo's not in trouble, gamers are just ignorant. If Nintendo does indeed go under one day it won't be because of Iwata, the quality of Nintendo's games or their business decisions. It will be because of gamers being brainwashed by the media into buying shoddy consoles and that pseudo-realism and violence in games is the way to go.

    • alex9234

But if the doom articles just suddenly disappear about Nintendo, that's when you need to start worrying.

  • madman94

this is crazy. all with one game haha. isn't this what I've been telling them drones XD

    • Furious Francis

Not really, Media Create does't count bundles. New Super Mario bros and Wii U Party U bundle is pushing a lot of people to buy a Wii U. I'll be posting the Famitsu charts that include bundles. in a little bit

    • *NormalGamer*

Actually, it’s releasing a ‘stream’ of games that will do the trick as Reggie said; not just Mario alone. But yes, never underestimate Mario and Nintendo. ^_^

      • Furious Francis

True, its the overall value and breath of games that are pushing people to buy a Wii U. Free online, great titles for the family and core gamers. Plays all your Wii games, uses Wii controllers ect.

Value is winning this holiday in Japan.
