Nintendo is Currently Dominating Japan

Nintendo

Just in case you missed the Media Create Charts this morning, Nintendo sold more than 200,000 units of hardware this past week. The 3DS sold over 181,556 units. The Wii U picked up 74,903 units, while 14 Nintendo titles charted in the top 20. Super Mario 3D World pushed another 57,862 units. Showing that Mario games always sell for long periods of time. While GungHo’s Puzzle and Dragons Z moved 543,630 units. More details below.

It’s pretty clear this is the tip of the iceberg for Nintendo. Next year Nintendo has a Zelda X Dynasty Warriors crossover in the works. That is going to sell big in Japan and the West. Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Zelda U, Monolith Soft’s X, Wii Fit U, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem are coming out next year as well. With these big titles launching for Wii U, its clear Nintendo knows what software can sell in all regions.

Nintendo’s portable machine is getting plenty of love as well. Big titles like Animal Crossing New Leaf, One Piece Unlimited World Red, Bravely Second, Super Smash bros for 3DS, Puzzle and Dragons Z, Kirby Triple Deluxe, Pokemon X & Y, Monster Hunter 4,  and Yoshi’s New Island are captivating the minds of gamers worldwide. The 3DS might end up being the best selling gaming device of all time in Japan.

The 3DS is a runaway success in Japan. The Wii U is gaining momentum at the right time, in all regions. For anyone who already counted Nintendo out this generation, you might want to rethink your stance.

    PSV – 1,110,333

    just saying…

    2014 Wii U games:

    Mario Kart 8
Super Smash Bros for Wii U
    Yarn Yoshi
    Monolith Soft's X
    Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
    Bayonetta 2
    Hyrule Warriors
    Zelda U (Possibly)

Holy crap that's a lot of exclusives, and there are still a lot of games that we probably haven't been told about yet. The Wii U is also going to have the key third party games like Watch Dogs and Project Cars.

It's a very exciting time to be a Nintendo fan right now.

I love the oriental philosophy: while some western assholes bashed Iwata, Wii U and even Master Miyamoto, they silently made what they do best: games. And all of this without any stupid answer to all the desperate provocations from those crumbling companies.

    Nuff said.

Sony made a big mistake ditching the Vita. With the Japanese gravitating towards handhelds there won't be that much room for consoles and the Wii U is really getting the leg up with Donkey Kong arriving on the PS4's launch week. Even with the delay, the PS4 still doesn't have that much Japanese games. I have a feeling it's launch sales are gonna have haters frowning…

    • Matthew Wesley says:

No, Sony made a mistake in expecting 3rd parties to prop up THEIR handheld. Right now, the vita is a cancerous growth that's holding them back, because the vita was never going to evict the 3ds from the house Nintendo built… so releasing it without supporting it was a bone head business decision.

Never, never, ‘never’ underestimate Nintendo when it comes to the games they make; it’s been their foundation for years since they started as a playing card game company.

Leave luck to heaven, everybody. ^_^

Hate to say this, but I don’t think domination is supposed to be used that way. Isn’t it supposed to be “…Currently Dominating Japan”?

But your right about the Wii U. It’s picking up slowly, but it is gaining a lot of momentum with its new ges! I wish the console the best of luck!

  12. DePapier says:

The thing is, Nintendo knows what Japanese gamers, and old school gamers alike, want: and slowly but surely, they are delivering. Haven’t watch the Direct yet, but Hyrule Warriors is just one of these experiences. Such a collaboration paves a way to transition for PS3 gamers in Japan to Nintendo’s home console and, by extension, creates an audience on Nintendo for traditional PlayStation developers. I’m sure as hell a lot more collaborations of this kind are in the making, since as you’ve seen it yourself, Nintendo only reveals games with complete gameplay footage.

I’m telling you, Iwata is out to get his revenge on Sony before age makes him retire, and as much as I hate Sony’s videogame business practices, he has my full support. :D

  13. AaronBren says:

Very encouraging. People were down on Wii U's sales the week 3D World came up, but it's jumped very sharply each week since. People are already talking about how Hyrule Warriors will be huge over there, too.
