PS4: Current-gen PSN Purchases and Saves won’t Carry over, plus no Backwards Compatibility

The PS4 will not be able to read PS3 discs but Gaikai will be able to stream PS3 games straight to the system. However, all of your PSN content you purchased on the PS3 will be stuck on the PS3 or gone if you sell it.

In an interview with Engadget, SCEE boss Shuhei Yoshida said that PS3 discs will not be compatible with the PS4. They will considering transferring some games over, as long as the emulation is not too difficult. PSN games will not be coming over as well.

Sony is considering making some PSN and PS3 titles playable “in some for”, suggesting that cloud based gaming would be possible.

This is not good, but hey you get some cool things, you lose some others.

This pretty much killed my excitement for the PS4.
I expected it to be able to do PS3 games, AT LEAST, but nooooo, the leap in tech is too big, so they can't justify the cost of trying to emulate their past generation of games…..
If it had a better controller or something other than the silly social features to entice me, I'd reconsider, but right now the only way I'd get a PS4, is if it got some games I simply could NOT miss out on.
I doubt that's going to happen any year soon.
    A shame, Sony.
Looks like I'll be sticking to my PS3 and Wii U this coming gen. You dun goofed.
