Square Enix America CEO Phil Rodgers discussed the decision to have Rise of the Tomb Raider a one year console exclusive to Microsoft.

“I hope fans know that it wasn’t an easy decision. I think any sort of partnership at this level is a decision that took a longtime for us to get to. The decision at a studio level, we took very, very seriously. We knew it would, in the short-term, disappoint fans,” Rogers said.

“Having been working with us on previous games in a lesser sense, they’ve been supportive. [However], for Rise of the Tomb Raider, they’ve just brought this passion and belief that has really enabled us to blow people away. People should feel that about Microsoft. Their commitment to Tomb Raider is just amazing for us,” Rogers said.

Boo hoo. People piss and moan about this but it happens all the time on both sides. I don’t see why this is such a big deal. Just people pissed that their company of choice didn’t get the exclusivity contract. It’s only a year, whatever.

Exactly.. Whatever. Microsoft chose to be the biggest loser and pay out the ass for this. Any other platforms will get a more polished game.

This doesn’t happen all the time at all, this is a very special case here… I’ve never heard of a company paying to keep an entire game away from a platform for a year. Waste of money and a bad buisness practice.

Paid for game for exclusivity and other perks is the other meaning of the terms “it wasn’t an easy decision.”

Notice how they never mention how much they paid for that exclusivity. I bet the money demanded for “exclusivity” was high enough to make it a tough decision..

That is the way of Microsoft.. Spend 100 million to make 101 million.. PROFIT!!

Easy decision for the gamer. Horizon Zero Dawn will get more than enough time to be played to the max. Am I the only one that gets happy when my hard to attain money is saved, and thus will get the Game of year edition cheap on the PS4?
