Steam Community Market Now in beta

Valve has announced the Steam Community Market has gone into a beta with Team Fortress 2. The Community Market is in place to “expand the Steam Economy beyond trading.”

This allows players to buy and sell in game items with other players with team Wallet funds. This feature will be made available to other games on Steam by 2013. Items purchased to have transaction fees.

This is pretty cool, and along with the announcing of the Steambox console, Valve is going to do big things next year.
