Nintendo is set to air another episode of Nintendo Direct tomorrow, to announce new Wii U games. A Legend of Zelda HD Collection wouldn’t really be ‘new’ Wii U games, but it would have the possibility to jump start sales of the Wii U and help satisfy the wait for a true Wii U Zelda game. Furious Francis goes over what he would like to see in the package.
The Legend of Zelda HD Collection should come packed in with three games. The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. This collection would be bundled on one Wii U disc of course and feature HD visuals, along with 5.1 digital surround sound. A collectors edition should be made the standard, with the usual fan fair: steel case, artbook, ect.
The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker HD
This is my favorite Zelda game of all time because of the combination of new gameplay mechanics and awesome cell shaded artwork. The way you traversed the great seas was new, and the leaf used to float from area to area had me hooked. The stealth elements, using enemies weapons, and ‘raiding’ on the high seas were gameplay mechanics brand new to the Zelda universe. Windwaker in HD, with a built in tingle tuner for the Wii U Gamepad, would be a welcomed edition as well. No more Gameboy Advanced cables!
The Legend of Zelda: Twighltight Princess HD
This Zelda game got off to a rocky start for me. I bought the game on my Wii day one in 2006, but my 17′ Dell HDTV did not like the Wii’s SD only output, which resulted in the game looking blurry as hell. Picture getting punched by Mike Tyson, that kind of blurry. So I had to wait till January for component cables to become readily available. After all that, the game was great. Just like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the 3DS, the game could feature a nice inventory screen and map system on the Gamepad. If Nintendo could include a mode after you beat the game to challenge the ‘Cave of Ordeals’ with online leaderboards, that would be really cool.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
It pains me to say this, but I still haven’t beat the Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword. And the only reason I haven’t, is because I’m holding out hope Nintendo will release an HD version that takes advantage of Gamepad controls. Skyward Sword is cool, but I really don’t want to swing the Wii remote around. I thought I did before I played the game, but it ended up getting tedious. I rather play Skyward Sword, and any Zelda game, with normal controls. Hopefully Nintendo releases some kind of HD version of Skyward Sword, even if its not part of a collection. I think the sales of Skyward Sword showed Zelda fans were not digging the game that much. Not to say Skyward Sword is bad, because it isn’t. I would just like to have normal controls for the game.
