Ubisoft has sent Rayman Legends to die

Ubisoft has delayed Rayman Legends on the Wii U to September, in order to have a simultaneous release on the Xbox 360 and PS3. This is a horrible business decision that will cost Ubisoft in the long run.

Wii U Owners Want this now

Many Wii U owners I’ve spoken too already had the game pre-ordered though Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target, and other retailers. This is a game that captured the imagination of the Wii U Gamepad so well. If Ubisoft released this game on the Wii U in February, like it was supposed to, it would have sold well. There is NOTHING new to play on the Wii U right now. Wii U owners would have snapped this up in no time.

Rayman Origin bombed on the PS3 and Xbox 360

The reason for the delay was so the same team could make the game for the PS3 and Xbox 360. I understand those systems have huge fanbase’s, but that doesn’t mean you need to delay a game, that’s near complete, to please them. Rayman Origin’s was not a big seller on the PS3 or 360. Ubisoft and retailers had to cut Rayman Origins’ price just to get it to break 500K on the PS3. Why would you screw the Wii U fans to appease a small amount of people who purchased the game on those systems? Ubisoft still could have released the Wii U version now, and the PS3 and 360 version in September. I don’t understand Ubisoft’s logic on this one.

Good luck Against the Competition

Ubisoft, you have sent Rayman Legends out to die. Not only will Nintendo have The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker Remake this fall, you can expect a new Mario Kart or Mario in the fall as well! Wii U owners will be spending their money on those games instead. Plus the Wii U will have a beefier back catalog of games to choose from. The Wonderful 101, Lego City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and more will be out by then.

Oh… and for the Xbox 360 and PS3 owners….. a little game called Grand Theft Auto V comes out in September! Ubisoft, you can’t be thinking PS3 and Xbox 360 owners are going to spend $60 on Rayman Legends, when GTA V comes out in the same month? GTA V is going to wipe the floor with Rayman Legends. Microsoft and Sony are also releasing new consoles this fall. PS3 and Xbox 360 fans are saving their money for those systems as well.

Ubisoft…. Horrible Decision

Mark my words ‘Ubisoft will regret delaying Rayman Legends on the Wii U’ its going to come back and bite them in the ass. There is too much competition out there for Rayman Legends to succeed in September. GTA V, Mario, Zelda, and new consoles will overshadow it.

On a side note

Rayman Legends is being published in Japan by Nintendo. Either the deal is off, or it’s still a Wii U exclusive in Japan. I’m going to send an email to Ubisoft, I’ll update when I hear back from them.

What do you guys think about Rayman Legends getting delayed? Put them in the comments below.

Funny how the article you wrote predicting Rayman Legends failure is actually article that led me to this glorius site. You should link it to the UK sales.

here's hoping the backlash would make Ubi execs change their mind.

I will buy the game on both Wii U and PS3. Looking forward to playing the game with the Gamepad and also earning another Platinum trophy. :)

You're 100% right! I can understand going multiplatform, but delaying the Wii U version until September? Potentially going up against GTA, new consoles, and Ninty's AAA titles? This game has been building a lot of positive hype among us WiiU owners… now not so much. Just switched my pre-order money over to Tomb Raider. Ugh. Wii U will be fine in the long run, but Rayman deserves better.
