Why Xenoblade Is One of The Greatest Games of All Time.

By Furious Francis, editor in chief

Great console JRPGs are few and far in-between this console generation. We have seen some good ones like Lost Odyssey, Residence of Fate, and Star Ocean: The Last Hope, but none of these JRPGs are as good as Xenoblade is cumulatively. As a matter of fact Xenoblade just isn’t one of the best JRPGs this generations its one of the greatest games of all time. In the next few paragraphs i’m going to break down all the “awards” Xenoblade does. Awards will be things Xenoblade does from some of the best games in the industry.

Final Fantasy Story Award

- Final Fantasy 13 has a fantastic story and the same goes for many other games in the final fantasy series. Xenoblade’s story is just as fantastic. From the brilliantly crafted cut scenes to the future telling story plots, Xenoblade’s story hits all the points you want to see story wise. Xenoblade has a story that you truly don’t want to miss.

Borderlands Award

- The first thing I think of when I say Borderlands is LOOT! And Xenoblade has regular loot, rare loot, and Super Rare loot. As well as gem creation to increase your weapons attributes and powers. Every monster drops items or weapons and its awesome to look through all of the weapons you collect and choose the best ones. You can sell the weapons you don’t need of course.

KOTOR Award

- KOTOR uses awesome cool down system to encourage strategic play and combos. Xenoblade does the same thing. The variety of different skills and upgradeable powers make Xenoblade just as fun to play as KOTOR was years back on the Xbox 1.

NON- Fable 3 Award

Hear me out on this one. I hate Fable’s voice acting and humor. Lionhead force-feeds British humor down our throats. The voices are so ridiculously British at times it gets annoying. Xenoblade has European voice actors but they never go over the top with the British Humor or voices. It’s just normal. You get the occasional bloak statement and what not but it’s real and entertaining. It’s not just the voice acting either. Fable 3 babies players. The game is far to easy. Xenoblade has tough monsters that are high level that challenge the player to react quickly and take full advantage of the unique skills of each character.

Star Ocean The Last Hope Award

Star Ocean is a drastically underrated game. Yes, the voice acting and story were not the greatest, but what it did best was the battle system. The gameplay was addictive, fun, and had layers of dept. Xenoblade is the same way. The more you play the more rewarding it is. The free movement of Xenoblade combined with cool down skills system, triple attacks, and strategic placements skill hits make Xenoblade just as fun and sometimes more fun to play than Star Ocean. Plus the MMO feel of the gameplay is unique for consoles and welcomed.

Assassin’s Creed 2 Award

There is a unique and fun part of Assassin’s Creed 2 that has nothing to do with the combat in the game. At a certain point in Assassin’s Creed 2 you can build your own villa. Collecting, buying, and building up your empire from scratch. In Xenoblade Colony 6 gets destroyed and they need you to build it back up by collecting items and improving the welfare of the people. This is a fun side quest because you get interesting items when you rebuild a shop or invest into other options.

Lost Odyssey Award

Lost Odyssey is one of my favorite JRPGs this generation. It has outstanding graphics, gameplay, and thoughtful mind intriguing short stories. Lost Odyssey provides plenty of bang for your buck. I easily put over 100 hours into the game. Xenoblade is a time collector as well. With the abundance of side quests (over 450) and unique monsters to kill. I will be playing Xenoblade for many hours to come.

It’s easy to see I am a huge fan of Xenoblade. All of these different aspects make Xenoblade a blast to play and all of these factors make Xenoblade one of the best games of all time. Have you guys played Xenoblade? What do you guys think? Put your comments below.

All this praise has made me cave in and I'm going to purchase a Wii to play this and Zelda Skyward sword. I live in England so this game is available, BUT it's sold out everywhere so I'm just hoping they get a lot more stock in so there is no shortage. I sold my Wii and really didn't want another, but this game and Zelda have broke me :( I must play them

  2. spike says:

agreed – it's one of the best games i've ever played (by a long way the best RPG I've played) and it's a damn shame that more people aren't going to experience it.

Importing this game is definitely worth the investment. I'm 60 hours in, about 2/3rds of the way through the story, and can see myself spending another 100 hours on it with all the other content in the game. I'm trying to get that all done before Skyward Sword comes out!

    Resonance not Residence of Fate

I just finished Xenoblade about an hour ago. 116 hours later. Having come from games like Xenogears, FF, Chrono Trigger, if I chose to put my nostalgia aside, Xenoblade is the greatest game I have ever played. The story line is incredible and the climatic ending blew me away. The storyline for this game is so god damned epic. And the fighting system is flawless.

Play this game. It will change your perception of what is possible in videogames.

  5. Grey Hopkins says:

I played it through. And yes, it's the best RPG ever, alongside FF VII and Chrono Trigger.

  6. onimuhah says:

xenoblade is the best and nothing comes near :D

  7. stealth says:

    this article is so ridiculous

xenoblade is good but its not even in the top 50- rpgs of this gen on all platforms

    • Furious Francis says:

I completely disagree with you, Xenoblade does so many things other RPGs just don't do. Its also the highest rated JRPG of this generation. I would like you to name 50 other RPG better than Xenoblade made this generation.

  8. Intel says:

Xenoblade. You shocked me with what you could do with your characters in just three hours. Shocked me again midway with the plot because of the world you live in. Shocked me a third time how the plot will turn the story on its head. Finally shocked me that after beating it, there’s a new game plus. Yeah this game is that darn good.

    • Furious Francis says:

It's an amazing game. That's why I'm really excited for Xenoblade 2

    • RicardJulianti says:

I REALLY need to play this game. Good thing I own it already because I don't want to have to pay $100+ for a game. Between this, Monster Hunter, Lego City and soon Deus Ex……I have more to play than I have time to play.

That's before getting into my other two systems. Ugh/Yay
