Wii to Wii U transfers detailed

Many Wii owners were worried that their precious back log of Wii Virtual console software might not be able to transfer to the Wii U. Well fear not, Nintendo has detailed the Wii to Wii U data transfer feature.

The instruction manual with the Wii U show you exactly who to transfer your data from the Wii to the Wii U. The first thing you need to do is put an SD card into your brand new Wii U to start the Wii system transfer. Once you have completed that, you need to put the same SD card into your Wii you want the data from. You will then have to download a app from the Wii Shop channel. This application will transfer data to the card that must be placed back into the Wii U when prompted.

This is when the Wii data is moved to Wii U and deleted from the SD card. Data that can be transferred includes:

  • Wii Software save data
  • WiiWare and save data
  • Virtual Console titles and save data
  • Add-on content
  • Wii Points
  • Wii Shop Channel activity
  • Mii characters
