Current EA COO Peter Moore has recounted the Xbox 360’s Red Ring of Death saga, that stuck the company for a tune of $1,150,000,000 in repair costs/warranties.
“We were seeing failure rates and starting to get reports through customer service,” Moore said.
“This was a thing where we couldn’t actually figure out what was going on.
“We knew we had a problem. I remember going to Robbie Bach, my boss, and saying, I think we could have a billion dollar problem here. As we started to do the analysis of what was going on, we were getting the defectors in, it was a challenging problem for our engineers, and we couldn’t quite figure out what it was. We knew it was heat related. There were all kinds of fixes. I remember people putting wet towels around the box.”
I suggest reading the full article over at Eurogamer. It is very interesting.
I always knew Suda 51 was a visionary, but this is taking it a bit far! In a new interview with GameReactor, Suda 51 says joked that No More Heroes probably won’t happen within the next “15 to 25 years”.
“Yeah, No More Heroes 3, I get a lot of requests from fans and I’m very grateful for that, but I’m thinking it may happen within 15 years or so? (laughs). Maybe not through Kickstarter, but GungHo would of course be supportive if that were to happen.
I think I have the vision that Travis forgot something, so I really have to have him to go back and get back what he has forgotten. But yeah, I definitely want to make it possible, but I also want to create something new, so maybe within 15 to 25 years (laughs)!”
“There’s been a lot of discussion on my channel and not a lot of games, but don’t worry, reviews galore are coming!… Until then, maybe a little talk on this whole “angry gamer” thing might be in order!”
Comcept has just released a teaser trailer for a game titled “Red Ash”. Many are speculating that this is a spiritual successor to Mega Man Legends.
A post in the Mighty No. 9 KickStarter page says:
Now what in the world could this be…?
Well…whatever it is, we decided to give our backers a special first look at it!
If you want to know more, you are all just going to have to wait until Independence Day to find out!
We can’t say anything more until then, but we think you get the idea. Please share this video with all your friends, and help spread the word!
We should here more about Red Ash at the anime Expo this weekend. Inafune-san will be holding a panel saying that he has a special announcement that “may interest Mega Man fans.”
The biggest “FIGHTING GAME” tournament in the world, EVO, has put together the early numbers for contestants per game. Ultra Street Fighter 4 leads with 2,227 entries. However, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Melee are hot on Street Fighter’s tail with 1,926 and 1,869 contestants respectively.
As a side note, I’ll probably be competing at EVO 2016, as I’ve started to win most of my local tournaments in Smash Wii U. I’m going to take on the Los Angeles area this summer, so hopefully I can continue to get better. Full numbers below.
EventStatus is back with another hard-hitting episode of The Main Event. Warning, suggestive language.
They are both masked conquerors of great power, but who will reign supreme?
Check out the latest episode of Game Theory here. The intro is freaking hilarious. Warning, suggestive themes.
Developer From Software has proudly announced that the Dark Souls franchise has sold more than eight million copies worldwide. These sales numbers include: Dark Souls, Dark Souls II and Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. And impressive has these numbers are, they don’t include Demon Souls or Bloodborne, which are considered “spiritual” links to the Dark Souls franchise. Sony will have exclusive DLC for Call of Duty Black Ops 3 this fall on PS3 and PS4. This deal actually went through due to the partnership Sony had with Activision with Destiny.
“Well, I think the first thing was we’ve had a great relationship with Activision around Destiny and I’m a huge fan of that,” said PlayStation VP of Publisher & Developer Relations, Adam Boyes.
Boyes had the opportunity to play Call of Duty: Black Ops III in person and he “fell in love” with the game instantly, and things went from there.
“As soon as I started playing it, I said, ‘This feels incredible! You can wallride!’ It’s just so smooth; it’s almost like poetic. And so obviously, we just continued talking with our partners at Activision and worked something out. And now we’ve got I think a great benefit to all the gamers,” he added.

Digital Foundry has compared the performance of Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition on PS4, PC and Xbox One. See the highlights of their analysis below.
Mr. Red Fox has come to enlighten me on the business side of the video game industry. In this “debate/discussion” we’ll be talking about Splatoon, voice chat, budgets and probably all sorts of stuff stemming from these topics. This discussion is being done in the interest of our users, and I have zero ill will toward Mr. Rex Fox, his opinions and the such. If we have time at the end, we’ll answer questions.
The guys over at the popular YouTube channel The Know, have a source that claims the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb will launch in Q4 2016 with a price point of $40. This is not confirmed by Square Enix, so take it with a grain of salt. But I will say they accurately leaked info on Dark Souls 3 and various other topics. You can watch the video on the rumor past the link. Via: NeoGAF
“We look back at some of the biggest announcements at E3, including features and programs Xbox One fans can participate in right now, including Game Preview, Backward Compatibility, and more!”
Despite Microsoft’s tiny install base in Japan for the Xbox One console, they aren’t giving up in the land of the rising sun. The firm just started an official blog in Japan, that covers all things Xbox. The blog currently has news articles on Halo 5 Guardians, Forza 6 and Rare Replay. More info specific to Japan will be coming in the future. Just keep those Media Create numbers away from there.
