Itadaki is Blaming poor Critical Reception to Devil’s Third on Player Skill

devils-third5-656x369

In a move that is never a good idea from a game developer or publisher, Tomonobu Itagaki, has blamed some of the poor reception Devil’s Third is getting to the player’s skill.

[ about previews ]Guys,At last, I was be able to understand about the reactions.Devil’s Third is the game which reflects the player’s skill directly/vividly.This is truth.

I don’t know about this one Itagaki, the game has some framerate issues from what I’ve heard. I’ll see for myself when I play the game.

Itagaki going into full-on damage control mode.

The game is bad. Just admit it. Anyone with functioning eyeballs can see that. It spent five years in development hell, with three engine switches and a switch of formats.

Blaming the previewers’ supposed lack of skill and the Wii U GamePad is just petty and ridiculous.

Maybe the online multiplayer will fare better, but the single-player mode is simply unacceptable. Ugly visuals, erratic framerate, glitches galore and humdrum gameplay are all very evident.

Again, like I said in another thread, I’ve already got Devil’s Third paid-off (for collection’s sake), but I’m not blinded to its glaringly-obvious faults.

Lolz Itagaki is hilarious,The game is up there with Too Human IMHO. That too was a deeply flawed game but once you learnt how to play it it became very fun.

This game is definitely not what we expected it to be, I will chalk that up to Itagaki and Valhalla themselves being unwilling or unable to effect the changes. That said though I do not doubt that the reviewers are being overly harsh on this game simply because it is a Nintendo exclusive.

We must remember the team at Valhalla is small and I doubt Nintendo gave much in the way of money for production. This is a classic B-Tier game and there is nothing wrong with that. Some of the most memorable games I have ever played were B-Tier. Adjust your expectations when playing it and it will probably turn out fine.

That said Itagaki NEEDS to address the issues with patches, especially with the checkpoint system. Zen Gamer mentioned that there isnt one before the boss so dying sends you back to the beginning. That will be almost as frustrating as Too Human’s 7 second death animation if not more.

      LOUD NOISES

So the atrocious frame-rate, PS2-level visuals, outdated game design, and uninspiring boss battles are all due to “player’s skill”…

    Ok…seem legit…

    …smh

    • uPadWatcher

You do realize that Devil’s Third was supposed to launch on PlayStation THREE and Xbox 360, but THQ had went out of business.

      • awang0718

So…the atrocious frame-rate, PS2-level visuals, outdated game design, and uninspiring boss battles are now acceptable…??

        Ok…

        • uPadWatcher

It’s pointless to exaggerate, Wang. Secondly, the PS2 cannot handle high definition visuals.

          • awang0718

This game looks like an up-rezzed PS2 game.

    • Travis Touchdown

All of that will be disproven with time. For example, the ‘PS2′ visuals claim is just pure exaggeration. Try watching the treehouse footage from last year: they were climbing all over buildings, fighting ninjas. That alone looked more interesting to me than Uncharted. And of course, the boss battles… I think that guy who made the ‘5 bad things’ video mentioned how he had a lot of fun battling one of the bosses. I imagine he’ll elaborate when he releases the next video.

      • awang0718

The game is already complete. Barring dramatic post-launch patches, this game is what it is.

        • Travis Touchdown

And it looks great, game play wise.

          • awang0718

Ok that’s your opinion. From what I have seen, it looks quite uninspiring and dull. There are SO many better alternatives out their on the market. Sadly, none of them are on Wii U.

          • Ryuken13

Sorry Travis I disagree. But the story could be great and the scenes we have seen may nit be the best to showcase the game’s strengths.. Hope you are right but current evidence points in a different direction.

  • PRIMUS

  • Travis Touchdown

    He’s not wrong.

The game certainly isn’t the disaster that people are making it out to be.

    • http://www.mariowiki.com/User:Jackpot_Jordan Jackpot_Jordan

Have you played the game yourself? Look, don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Ninty fan and am all for 3rd party exclusives, but there’s no denying gameplay footage has this as a very generic game. I’ll wait for official reviews from multiple sources before I decide on whether to get it or not. One thing’s for sure tho, no pre order.

      • Travis Touchdown

Actually, watching gameplay footage has made me even more excited. The game wasn’t even really on my radar until I saw the Treehouse footage, and I didn’t get really excited about it until looking into the backlash towards the title myself.

Comments from the press really don’t match up with what they were showing on screen, so I’m inclined to not believe them. At the absolute worst, the frame rate could be a little more consistent.

This really does reek of the same, exact thing that happened with the Wonderful 101. Remember how the controls were ‘broken?’ I think they brought up frame rate then as well, but it’s not the critque that people remember.

    • Ryuken13

Actually, he is totally wrong IMO..

Calling the game a disaster is going a bit too far. I will save final judgment for release..

The things I didn’t like: Floating jumps that looked strange and the clunky look of the game in first person mode shooting..

IMO the game needs another 4 to 6 months polish.
