Cliff Bleszinski Upset over Nintendo Firing Chris Pranger from the Treehouse

Cliff B

Nintendo recently fired localization worker Chris Pranger from the Tree house over comments he made on a podcast. Former Gears of War producer Cliff Bleszinski, spoke out against the firing on Twitter.

“Nintendo fires employee that goes on a podcast. Next up they can folks that post youtube videos and do Twitch streams and Twitter?!”

“Way to allow for some transparency, Big N. :(“

“Kinda sad to know the company you grew up with and worshipped and still adore you’d never want to work for, ever.”

Not really all that clear that he violated NDA. Seems a little harsh and heartless. I have to believe that their were other previous incidents of some kind of bad work or misconduct with this employee. Feels more like a “this was the last straw” sort of thing.

  • Fonder0

saw threats that the Eshop may go offline very soon

  • Chris

People blowing this up way out of proportion. Plus this jackass is just chiming in to get some media attention. Cliffy B is a media whore and looks for ways to get a second of spotlight.

  • JaxonH

Did he violate NDA? Probably. Did Nintendo have the legal right to fire him? Ya.

SHOULD THEY HAVE? Maybe, but then again, there’s a reason this is coming across as so heartless.

  • Wegotexclusives

On ign there was an idiot who said that why wasn’t major nelson fired when he said that people who don’t have internet should be fire…. Funny thing is that it wasn’t major nelson who said it it was Don Matrick and he indeed got fire.

  • Agt_Pendergast

Wait a minute Cliffy. If what you’re saying is true, then…. I still don’t care.

  • Nintendofan4000

Cliffy is officially a c*nt! This is simple NDA violation consequences. It doesn’t matter how many people heard it on the podcast. Information spreads to millions VERY quickly. This is common sense. Even an amoeba could understand something so clear cut. But I guess our resident sportshead and Mr. DelRio are less intelligent than those. #sorrynotsorry Cliffy should B quiet!

  • ednice

Nintendo wouldn’t risk the terrible PR they’re getting from this situation over 1 guy, he probably wasn’t up to their standards otherwise they would’ve just put him under a gag order(like Dan Adelman).

  • Wanderlei

This dipshit has had an agenda against Nintendo for some time.

      Indeed.

While I don’t agree that Mr. Pranger should have been fired for his mistakes, he still made mistakes, and there will be consequences. The man said it himself: it was his own fault. Nintendo is doing what they have to do to protect their business. What Mr. Pranger said during that podcast was not outright harmful, but had he revealed any slightly deeper information regarding Nintendo, then the company’s share prices could have dropped and their finances could have been affected.

I feel bad for Mr. Pranger, as it seems he was very passionate about his job, but I also respect Nintendo’s decisions. The war against NDAs will continue to rage, and trust me, Mr. Bleszenski, NDAs don’t lose very often.

A fine example of the double standards with Nintendo. When everyone else does it nobody bats an eye but when Nintendo does it, people go apeshit and act like they are Ivan the Terrible. Sometimes it feels to me like some people will do anything to make Nintendo look bad. Pranger clearly violated NDA and crossed the PR line in the process so people really shouldn’t be painting him as some innocent victim

let’s not forget those 5 studios Sony closed down, layoff 10,000 employees IRC.

    • Liquid-Sunrise

The gaming media and the gamers are such hypocrites.
      It is sickening…

  • koopzilla

Oh no, I am soooooo sad that douchebag CliffyB wouldn’t work for Nintendo. What ever will I do.

He can go work for EA or something who will fire hundreds of people without batting an eye. How is Nintendo getting more shit for firing one guy who was clearly out of line than a company firing hundreds? I seem to remember a couple of years ago Nintendo executives taking pay cuts so their employees wouldn’t lose their jobs while they were going through a rough patch. At the same time other companies were firing people by the truck load, or buying whole studios, taking the IPs firing everyone who worked there and shutting them down. Nintendo fires one single guy for doing something he obviously shouldn’t have done and was against the rules of his workplace. Now who is the horrible company to work for?

    • Wegotexclusives

Sony fired 10,000 but jo one said they where bad because of it. The reason the media is blowing this up is because it was nintendo who did it.

      • koopzilla

Yeah, 1 person who was fired for violating the terms of his employment vs. 10,000 who were only doing their jobs. Nintendo, you bastards!

      • http://youtube.com/paidenthusiast paidenthusiast

        Exactly

      • Mythosa

I said they were bad 😛

  • Jon Turner

If Chris owned up to his mistakes and regretted his actions that’s more than needs to be said. I would prefer it if nobody made a big deal of this. This is Chris’ issue to solve, not anyone else’s. Besides, the same would have happened to any company if one broke an NDA, right? That’s how I see it.

  • freelancepimp .

Very few off us can speak about the company we work for publicly. I don’t care if you are a janitor or a high level manager. Unless you work in PR or are a high level executive you are not at liberty to speak on behalf of the company. Corporations hire specific people for that and send memos out regularly telling you not to do it.

  • Revolution5268

OK I knew I should have talk about this but now its getting worst. Here is my two cents:
First off, the Nintendo TreeHouse back in 2014 may it perfectly clear that they are NOT allowed to talk about their jobs outside of Nintendo. That mean not even with their families. Its funny how many clown kids talk about their dads what they do and confirmations when in reality their dads would be sue. Period and a bit off topic.
Second, Nintendo is not the only company doing this Sony fired Kevin Butler for stupid reason and he got sue as well. Microsoft fired Phil Spencer’s predecessor for talking like a moron. Companies outside video games have that rule as well and that is talking shit about your companies and expect to be fired.

Third, Cliffy B is a hypocrite when talk about Nintendo. Like you work with companies that do bad practice to consumers. He only talk when Nintendo does something “wrong” like that clown Pachter. I mean nobody and their mother made a big deal when Sony & Microsoft does it.

    • Wegotexclusives

Actually they can talk it with their families but if the they find out that a relative forward it then there be consequence.

    • Wegotexclusives

Reply to the third part: No body said anything when sony fired 10,000 employees with out reasons but when it is a loud mouth that deserved everyone defends it.

      • Revolution5268

I don’t know if you remember the guy who leak the Wii U Gamepad? Yup he got fired. The dude who leak Smash Bros characters got fired as well. People seems to forget this is a business company not a community service.

CIFFY-B FOLLOWS THE EXCT SAME PATTERN EVERY TIME HE MENTIONS NINTENDO

I GREW UP WITH I USED TO LIKE MARIO I USED TO PLAY NINTENDO

GO RESEARCH IT IM RIGHT FROM DAY ONE OF WII HE DID THIS

NINTENDO IS SOMETHING WEVALL USED TO DO AND NOW IS ABOUT XBOX,I SEE THRU THIS IDIOT EVERYTIME HE OPENS HIS MOUTH

  • Wegotexclusives

Everyone is acting like it was undeserved. The harsh way that he even defended Nintendo was out of line too. The firing was deserved and he admited too and if Cliff thinks he sould get his job back why doesn’t him offers one is his company?

  • Tedthesporthead

Nintendo is acting like it was some guy with 25K twitter followers going on to CNN to dis his boss.

In reality it was a virtual nobody with 1K twitter followers going on a small podcast no one cares about to say the same thing Nintendo has been saying for months about localization costs.

    joke

    • KnightWonder

It doesn’t matter how many people were there, the fact is he said stuff that shouldn’t have been said and suffered just consequences for his actions.

      • Tedthesporthead

Another fine PR move by Nintendo. Must of been the same guy who was in charge of the Wii U launch and its marketing and PR.

        • RickyDelRio

Speaking of the U launch, bet nobody was fired for that.

          • Wegotexclusives

The wiiu launch was great is after that the things went down hill.

    • getagrip

ARE LIVES DONT REVOLVE AROUND ARE TWITTER FOLLOW COUNT

NINTENDO ACTED ON A GUY WHO TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF TO REP THE COMPANY WITCH WASNT HIS JOB

WHATS SOCIAL MEDIA GOT TO DO WTH THE PRICE OF CHEESE

IM SURE AT THE MEETING HIS BOSS ASKED HIM HO MANY FACEBOOK FRIENDS YOU GOT DUDE

      STEP BACK INTO REALITY DUDE

    • RickyDelRio

Nintendo makes great games but the suits in Japan think it’s 1984 and don’t have a clue. Probably don’t know what a podcast or Twitter is. Probably think he did go on CNN

      • Mythosa

        How are you so ignorant?

    • Wegotexclusives

That wasn’t even the reason of him being fire. He literally say that we should never ask for anything cuz nintendo can’t aford it. Wich fir me is mayor cause for being fire even if it was true.

  • Tedthesporthead

Its a disgrace. Punishment doesn’t fit the crime. Not even close. The guy was virtually a nobody going on a very obscure podcast that hardly anybody listens to.

I mean the guy had barely 1,000 twitter followers (he’s almost doubled that in the last 2 days due to this shit storm)

I guarantee you Nintendo had no idea the Pranger story would be on virtually every gaming website form here to timbuktu. They had no way of anticipating the response on social media.

They should fire the cold heartless person who fired Pranger with no foresight for the embarrassment he/she has caused. Then give the man his job back.

    • KnightWonder

How about no? It doesn’t matter how many people were there, the fact is he said stuff that shouldn’t have been said and suffered just consequences for his actions.

      • Tedthesporthead

thats fine. Another fine PR move by Nintendo. The guy who made this decision must be the same guy who was in charge of the Wii U launch and its marketing and PR.

        • KnightWonder

So now your devolving into insulting them. Good to know we shouldn’t take you seriously then.

        • uPadWatcher

Just because one person had violated the Non Disclosure Agreement doesn’t mean it’s a PR move. Do not confuse Nintendo with Dobis PR, Ted. Do you want to see Nintendo giving away secrets so Sony can steal ideas?

  • Hardin Twentyfive

Oh, you’re the Gears of War guy, huh? Cliffy, you was never good with judgement, weren’t you?

  • KnightWonder

Hey Cliffy I’ve got a piece of advice. Know your place, and that place is below Nintendo’s boot.

    • 7thlevel JR

which is under sonys boot lmao

      • KnightWonder

Actually Nintendo has a lot more money than Sony so they’re still under their boot.

      • darkgamer001

Tell that to the Vita….oh wait
I’d say it’s under the 3DS’ boot, but I think there’s around 50 feet of crap separating the two
        *vita owner btw*

  • Ryuken13

Cliffy B is so full of shit.. If an employee of his violated a NDA agreement he would personally make the decision to terminate the employee as well.

    • Liquid-Sunrise

      I really can’t stand that guy either…

    • RickyDelRio

No NDA violation when this small amy of info has already been disclosed by Nintendo. They look like jerks to many.

      • Revolution5268

Every company is a jerk. The big difference is employees cannot talk about bad stuff otherwise its unemployment time. Try this next time you are at work try talking crap about the company you work at the boss face.

      • Ryuken13

Who are we to determine Nintendo’s policies?? Also, we have no idea what his employment record was like.. Perhaps they were looking to let him go for other things..

Nintendo looks like jerks to the ignorant no matter what they do

      • Mythosa

Anyone that thinks that doesn’t understand the clause of an NDA.
Just to be blunt… It’s Non-Disclosure Agreement. That means if you tell a single person about it you have actually broken that agreement and opens the person that broke the agreement up for any of the repercussions that go with it.
It is a signed contract that is broken, because of that they are liable.

    • freelancepimp .

That was my first thought. This guy is so wishy-washy. He probably knows said individual personally. I’ve never liked this guy since he pretty much ripped off RE4 for Gears or War.

      • Ryuken13

Cliffy B is a narcissistic media whore and no more nor no less.

  • ActualGamer78

He openly said some pretty out of line things about the Nintendo fanbase and stated stuff that violated NDA (IE: Xenoblade’s sales). He broke his NDA, he got fired, end of story. Any company would suspend or fire someone (hell, even sue if some super confidential stuff was said) for breaking their NDA.

I’m willing to bet you if Phil Spencer or someone else closely involved with Xbox or the Sony equivalent did something similar to what Chris did and got fired for it, nobody would bat an eye.

    • Liquid-Sunrise

Though Pranger seems like a cool dude, he should
kept his mouth tightly shut if he under NDA. That goes
for everyone in the work place.

  • DylanWins

Waiting for an explosion in 3… 2… 1….
