Slightly Mad Studios Apologizes for Project Cars’ Wii U Cancellation, Looking Forward to NX

Project Cars Lie MS

Project Cars on Wii U is officially cancelled. Slightly Mad Studios has apologized for not releasing the game on the system, but says they look forward to a future hardware announcement from Nintendo.

“Despite much perseverance on the Wii U version of Project Cars, we will no longer be actively pursuing development on it as the quality does not meet our own high standards nor our intended vision for the title on this platform.”

“We eagerly look forward to any announcement of further hardware from Nintendo but right now Project Cars is simply too much for Wii U despite our very best efforts. Apologies to our Nintendo fans out there that have been waiting for further news on this but we have no desire to release a product that isn’t at the very least comparable with our highest-rated versions on other platforms. We optimistically look forward therefore to what the future may hold.”

Ok SMS I heard what you want to say.
Let me measure up how much BS that was.

They don’t deserve an apology they deserve a freaking refund for all the money they invested crowdfunding this game.

project we dont even have a wiiu dev kit

  • Anderson Tenecela

When I saw the video Project LIES, I soon believe that Project CARS on Wii U would be cancelled. You were right Francis.

  • Bernadet Gnuyen

these people just stold the money from WiiU owners, and Sony is begging their fans to please fund games for their console …lol what is next?

3rd party publishers/developers and gamers these days are ruining what was once a great hobby. Gamers these days don’t understand the power that they have. Instead of voting with their pocket by saying ‘no we won’t tolerate or accept this’, they go ahead and spend their hard earned money (or their parents hard earned money) on games that aren’t worth their money and time. So sad.

  • getagrip

when nx or whatever arrives they will invent another excuse,or release the old first version in a lazy port

then say the new version isnt coming SAME OLD TURD PARTY LIES

meanwhile fast racing neo runs at 60fps and looks amazing

Unlike some, I am not butthurt about the cancellation of this game on Wii U. The Wii U is neither a powerful nor a successful platform, which are two perfectly legitimate reasons why any third party developer would want to stay way from this console.

However, this game was Kickstarted, which means money was passed, from an investor to Slightly Mad Studios. This means some people paid SMS for the development of the Wii U version of Project Cars, and these same people should be refunded rather than be promised with a version of the game on some platform (NX) that nobody knows anything about. Canceling a game is one thing; canceling a game and refusing to refund the investors is another.

That’s dumb if these devs were competent they could get it to run on the system. Anyone who spouts the same bullshit narrative like you, are stupid puppets of devs, and journalists, who can’t do they’re own research. Pro-tip the Wii ran PS3, and Xbox360 games like; call of duty.

      • awang0718

The Wii did indeed run some PS3 and Xbox 360 games. They were just significantly downgraded compared to their PS3/Xbox 360 counterparts, in both visual quality and content. At one point, I had Call of Duty World at War on both Wii and PS3. Guess which version I actually kept??
This is likely the same situation regarding Project Cars, except the Wii U is far, far, far from the blockbuster success the Wii was, so the investment isn’t worth it.

    • https://www.facebook.com/X.V.Entertainment Diego Arias

Those are not perfectly legitimate reasons. A game can be successful even if the platform is considered a failure. It’s possible that a game can sell 2 million units or more on an install base of around 10 million. And the Wii U is powerful enough to handle Project CARS. All they needed to do was downgrade the graphics to Wii U standards.

      • awang0718

No third party Wii U game (outside of Hyrule Warriors, which sort of doesn’t count since it was published by Nintendo and features Nintendo characters) has sold over a million copies. Nothing is going to change that (unless Nintendo’s money-hatted amiibo/Skylanders partnership works out REALLY well).

Slightly Mad simply doesn’t want to take the time to downgrade the graphics, lower the frame-rate, and tweak the engine to get this game on Wii U, only for few consumers to actually buy it. The problem is, they should be refunding the investors who paid for the game to end up on the Wii U, rather than promising them an NX version of the game.

“Wii U is neither a powerful nor a successful platform, which are two perfectly legitimate reasons why any third party developer would want to stay way from this console.” - Ahem, the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast would like to have a few words with you about that.

And if it was because of console power then 3rd parties would have dropped the PS2 the second the GameCube and Xbox came out, two FAR more powerful consoles that could do TONS more than the PS2 could ever hope to. But they didn’t.

What happened with the Project Cars Wii U fiasco was an act of fraud. The Wii U version never existed.

They intended to rip off Nintendo gamers and were never going to release a Wii U version.

“”Project Cars/Weapons of Mass Development opened funding initially as a free-to-play PC only racing game,” Bell explained. “This is when the bulk of the funding arrived. Funding was closed late 2013. By vote of the members, it changed to a boxed product PC/Xbox 360/PS3 and ‘maybe Wii U’ game. It was always ‘maybe’ as we had no knowledge of the system.”

Yet their own overview information from FEBRUARY 2012 lists the Wii U as a DEFINITE and CONFIRMED platform. So he says there’s no way Wii U owners could have possibly helped to fund this game? Yeah… about that…Though his entire ‘maybe’ comment shows where they were even way back at the beginning. According to him it was confirmed for the PC, PS3, and 360 and yet still a ‘maybe’ for the Wii U. If the game had never been moved to the PS4 and XBone there still wouldn’t be a Wii U release.

It was all a scam from day one. The people responsible for this should go to jail for fraud.

      • awang0718

Sega Saturn’s support was never that great and the Dreamcast had pretty good sales during its very, very short run (Dreamcast sold more units during its 1.5 year run than the Wii U has sold in 2.5 years).
PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube hardware were similar, though it was pretty obvious that Xbox was the most powerful and PS2 was the weakest. However, it was clear all three platforms were significant leaps over the N64 and PS1.
Ultimately, any power differences between PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube didn’t matter, as PS2 was able to sell well over 20 million units by the time Xbox and Gamecube hit store shelves. Wii U sales barely scratched 5 million when Xbox One and PS4 were released.
And I don’t disagree with your statement that this was an act of fraud, because it was.

They probably have no more money to throw after a failed title. If they do refund donations, I say give them a break. If they don’t then they deserve all the hell they get.

  • Jon Turner

If they actually DO get it on NX, great. However, that doesn’t excuse SMS for the way they treated WiiU owners on this predicament. Hopefully Armature will do a much better job honoring their promise with Nintendo fans.

    • Dark Shidara

If the NX or what ever it ends up being called gets this game Nintendo Fans shouldn’t buy it.

      • eaglebob345

I wonder if they honestly think anyone NX owner would even buy their game if they do release it…

        • Dark Shidara

After the Lies and Insults noone is going to be interested in a Sh1tty version of Forza Motorsport; they’re just trying to heal a wound that won’t ever heal.

    • alex9234

The people at SMS who are responsible for this should be arrested and charged with committing an act of fraud for doing something like this. This act is criminal. The Wii U version never existed. It was a scam from day one.

      • Jon Turner

I don’t like this anymore than you do, but come on, a crime? This screams more like bad decision making. Seriously, there are far worse things to arrest people for than this. Do I like this? No. But c’mon, that’s going overboard.

  • Travis Touchdown

I’m told that Project Cars is terrible anyway, haha.

I doubt they ever really tried to bring it to the console, to tell you the truth. They would have shown a demo or something.

    • getagrip

it didnt ever exist, id bet my left nut,i said this 18 months ago…

  • getagrip

notice that after 2 plus years of lieing THE WIIU VERSION NEVER EXISTED FACT

they then wait to release it then say not coming to wiiu, then againa few months later BRING THE SUBJECT BACK UP!!!!!!!!

    THERE TROLLING

  • Wonder Dean

    Meanwhile at Shin’en…

  • CapableTie

I didn’t donate, but they really need to just refund the Wii U donations.

  • Dark Shidara

    “our Nintendo fans out there”

The Bullsh1t is Strong with this one……

  • TheAdj

An apology after lying and insulting people, yet they think that every one will forgive and forget if they “promise” to consider to maybe develop for the next console.

  • KnightWonder

    Apology not excepted.

  • ZainreFang

Nintendo should just keep releasing Amiibo figures and minor titles/remakes on Wii U/3DS to make money until the PS5/Nextbox comes out, then release a competitive console at that point, dropping the Wii brand. They could go with a 200 dollar console or a 400 dollar console. Despite having some of the best games of the generation so far, Nintendo’s efforts have failed to prevent Wii U from being a stain on Nintendo’s history. There are just way too many bad things happening with Nintendo these days.

    • getagrip

like making profit and having more AAA games on there system than any other!!!!

yeah bad things a tiny lying devloper made a average game funded by a charity starter

and nintendo 22 billion valued on the stock exchange IS IN THE COUGH BAD PLACE

      • rcrennick

Other than investors, no one, other than people emotionally invested for one reason or another care about a companies profits or were they sit on a stock exchange. The vast majority of consumers just enjoy the products.

I’m sitting here enjoying a can of Dr. Pepper and have no idea of its stock value. I love my Alienware but have no idea how much money they make. Ditto with my car, my favorite band, console, whatever.

Just play the games and enjoy them. Trust me, none of these companies care about you.

        • getagrip

CARE I OWN A HOUSE WITH NO PAYMENTS DUE TO MY INVESTMENT IN THIS VERY COMPANY

          • rcrennick

did you miss, “other than investors”? the vast, vast majority of consumers of any product have no idea or give a sh## about the finances of a company. That’s a fact.

Nobody is going to rush out and buy a U because it’s making a profit.

I said similar things 2 years ago when anti-Nintendo fans were gloating about Nintendo lowering their sales projections on the U by two thirds. I said it wasn’t going to stop someone from buying a U that wanted one.

most people don’t know and could care less.

  • Jewelwriter Moonstar

Yea…they did a Bandit! Steal the loot and RUN!

  • Guidosaur
