New Nintendo 3DS XL sold 40% Above NOA’s Expectations

Many doubted the New Nintendo 3DS would sell well in North America due to its name and not coming with a charging cable (seriously). Nintendo of America executive VP of sales Scott Moffitt, has revealed the system sold 40% above firm’s expectations.

“We were short on product when we first launched the [New Nintendo 3DS XL]. It was selling 40 percent above what we were forecasting and expecting. All we’ve shared in regards to numbers of the system is that we’ve sold half a million units in the first couple of months.”

Advertising! The right to choose, Nintendo needs to implement this and we are all golden. Their systems need this pronto, this is no longer the 80s and earliest 90s when people bought games using common sense.

I don’t think Nintendo’s forecasts for 3DS sales were very high (7.6 million units projected to be sold in FY2016 - not a very big sales volume), so exceeding the forecast is definitely a good thing.

I think that this is a pretty good indication that the new go to excuse for the Wii U not selling too well (The name sucks, LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL) is a load of crap. The Xbox One was a pretty good sign, but the New 3DS clinches it, in spite of all the nonsense complaints lobbied at it, particularly about the charger. BlackBusterCritic’s video on the subject comes to mind.

However, I feel as if the response to the New 3DS does indicate what is actually wrong with Wii U sales. Namely, the fact that people will act like whatever they do is the WORST THING EVER, regardless of context, while letting their competition get away with murder.

We’ve been seeing a lot of misconceptions about the console being pushed around as if it were fact, the most recent being that Nintendo is replacing it with the NX. (They’re not) and that the Wii U isn’t going to be supported past 2015, besides Zelda (Again, not true) And I feel it’s not really going to stop until the industry crashes again, which seems imminent at this point, given how the vast majority of commentators, critics, journalists, corporate suits, and gamers think selling the most consoles is indicative of long term success, or even quality.

Nintendo is in a position where they can thrive even at their worst, while Sony is struggling to keep their head above water at their best, but people don’t address that, because that’s not profitable for them.

BlackBusterCritic, a name I have not heard in eons. I just remembered he always had better videos and layouts than his brother Shokio. He changed channels and then I lost touch with him. Hope his content has not been marred by time and change of space. Great post bro.
